ActBlue — Taking Back the 8th

Recall Alberta Darling, State Senator, Wisconsin District 8
We are up against some serious money. Darling has raised over $400,000 in her recall battle before we even had a candidate. I know we can't raise that kind of money--but every little bit helps!

Please donate what you can.

Together we will succeed.
...
Forward!

I just gave to Taking Back the 8th.

Experts skeptical state is truly broke

Experts skeptical state is truly broke

“Wisconsin is Republican broke, but it’s not broke,” said Mordecai Lee, a UW-Milwaukee political science professor. Anyone who's been paying attention knows we aren't really broke. Here is some intelligent analysis of the situation. Perhaps useful if you find yourself in an argument with a Republican.

Stop anti-immigrant legislation in Wisconsin: What is wrong with the Pridemore Bill | Defend Wisconsin

Stop anti-immigrant legislation in Wisconsin: What is wrong with the Pridemore Bill | Defend Wisconsin

"The proposed law would enable any law enforcement agency in the state to be given the capacity to detain an individual suspected of committing a crime for 48 hours if that person is unable to produce an identification document that establishes “proof of legal presence” in the state. Failure to produce such proof within 48 hours would require law enforcement to contact the Department of Homeland Security immigration and customs authorities. It would also require the law enforcement to transfer the individual over to federal custody and possibly out of state.

The Milwaukee-based group Voces de la Frontera has pointed out that the following behaviors are classified as crimes in certain jurisdictions in Wisconsin: jay-walking, extreme noise, barking dogs, not having a dog or cat license for a pet, public spitting, skateboard/roller skate violations, leaving keys inside a parked vehicle, public smoking violations, playing baseball outside designated areas, street auto repair, youth curfew violations. This list was compiled by Voces de la Frontera in their document “Questions about the Pridemore Bill.”"

‎"Low and middle income people would lose tax credits worth about $49.4 million over two years, the new Legislative Fiscal Bureau report said. Those affected most by Walker's proposal would include low-income families who qualify for the earned income tax credit program, and low-income homeowners who receive tax rebates under the homestead tax credit."

Janesville - Rock County: The Revolution Is On

Janesville - Rock County: The Revolution Is On

"The revolution taking place in Wisconsin must go beyond its borders. In Congress, Wisconsin's ideologically poisoned congressman Paul Ryan has proposed a plan that will abolish Medicare within 10 years. Every person under the age of 55 today will not have the quality and equitable health care guarantee that seniors enjoy today. Ryan blames the federal government, Medicare and Medicaid for the greed-driven high costs of the private health care industry. His position with Big Insurance is the same position he holds for Big Oil. He thinks their profits should be padded by deleveraging seniors with tax subsidized vouchers. The price at the pump isn't high enough. Ryan's plan is so far out there that it offers no room for compromise - just like Walker."

Will the Public Blame Paul Ryan if There's a Shutdown? | Mother Jones

"Recent polling shows that more voters are inclined to blame Democrats than Republicans for a government shutdown. But the GOP may have shot itself in the foot by deciding to introduce Paul Ryan's controversial, entitlement-slashing budget plan for next year the very same week they move towards a shutdown."

Wisconsin Election Turns Into Referendum on Governor - NYTimes.com

Wisconsin Election Turns Into Referendum on Governor - NYTimes.com

"Fights over the agenda of Wisconsin’s newly powerful Republicans, including cuts to collective bargaining rights, have turned this quiet judicial match into a bitter, expensive, highly personal and politicized battle, inflamed with advertising dollars expected to reach into the millions from outside liberal and conservative groups, including the Tea Party Express.

The race has turned into a referendum on Wisconsin’s new Republican governor, Scott Walker, on his bill limiting collective bargaining rights for public workers, and, more broadly, on the Republican politicians who now control the Capitol. “This has really become a proxy battle for the governor’s positions and much less a fight about the court itself,” said Charles H. Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison."
