Stop anti-immigrant legislation in Wisconsin: What is wrong with the Pridemore Bill | Defend Wisconsin
"The proposed law would enable any law enforcement agency in the state to be given the capacity to detain an individual suspected of committing a crime for 48 hours if that person is unable to produce an identification document that establishes “proof of legal presence” in the state. Failure to produce such proof within 48 hours would require law enforcement to contact the Department of Homeland Security immigration and customs authorities. It would also require the law enforcement to transfer the individual over to federal custody and possibly out of state.
The Milwaukee-based group Voces de la Frontera has pointed out that the following behaviors are classified as crimes in certain jurisdictions in Wisconsin: jay-walking, extreme noise, barking dogs, not having a dog or cat license for a pet, public spitting, skateboard/roller skate violations, leaving keys inside a parked vehicle, public smoking violations, playing baseball outside designated areas, street auto repair, youth curfew violations. This list was compiled by Voces de la Frontera in their document “Questions about the Pridemore Bill.”"
