Congresswoman Seeks Federal Investigation of Wisconsin Election | The Nation
Wisconsin Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin has asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to initiate a federal investigation into the questionable handling of disputed vote records in the state's Waukesha County.
“For our democracy to endure, we, the people, must have faith in its laws and system of justice, including faith that our elections for public office are fair and free from any manipulation or tampering,” Baldwin wrote to Holder. “Following this week’s election for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, numerous constituents have contacted me expressing serious doubt that this election was a free and fair one. They fear, as I do, that political interests are manipulating the results.”
Baldwin is not exaggerating when she refers to “numerous constituents… expressing serious doubt that this election was a free and fair one.”

"Democrats will chant with us--but the last thing we need is to hand the momentum we've created to a political party committed to the rich."
"The Democrats are going to do only enough to regain their foothold. They'll stand up and chant with us, because the power of the people is visible--but the last thing we need is to hand off the momentum we've created to a political party that is still drinking Milton Friedman's "capitalism is a necessary condition for political freedom" Kool-Aid.
It's a lie. We can prove that it's impoverishing the majority and destroying the planet, and it's got to go.
By the way, the Student Government Association's Environmental and Sustainability Issues Committee is bringing Ralph Nader to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on April 19." FULL ARTICLE HERE | SocialistWorker.org

'Atlas Shrugged' Movie And The Rampant Rise Of Ayn Rand-O-Mania : NPR
"Burns says: "I think the movie is going to reinforce that Rand is not just a novelist, but a propagandist." And the film "will provide a clear window into the ideas and ideals that are motivating a segment of today's political right. As such, I think it will be eye-opening for viewers from all parts of the political spectrum."
Rand's dystopian tale taps into the fears of conservative Americans about government spending, deficits and the social priorities of a Democratic president like Obama, Burns says. "On the one hand, Rand's popularity points to the vigor and growth of the American right, particularly as seen in the Tea Party. On the other hand, it points to a certain intellectual weakness amid the conservative movement, given that their leading intellectual is a novelist who has been dead for almost 30 years."

WASHINGTON -- "As part of the budget deal hashed out on Friday evening, lawmakers agreed that no additional federal funds would be used to hire new IRS agents.
A good chunk of the evasion, the GAO concluded, was committed by individuals with “substantial personal assets” including multi-million-dollar homes and “luxury cars.” One passport recipient bought a house for $2 million and another property for $1.5 million despite owing $1 million in federal taxes." Wisconsin Titanic: Criminal Probe Heading Scott Walker’s Way
http://www.politicususa.com/en/criminal-probe-scott-walker
This morning, a criminal complaint filed in circuit court alleges that William Gardner, the president and CEO of Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Co., skirted campaign donation laws by soliciting employees to give to Scott Walker’s campaign and then reimbursing them, in what amounts to two felony counts. It has also come out that Walker’s campaign then reimbursed Gardner and seven additional railroad employees to the tune of $43,800, which indicates a criminal probe is imminent of Walker’s campaign.

Iceland Declares Independence from International Banks
http://netrightdaily.com/2011/04/iceland-declares-independence-from-international-banks/
"Iceland is free. And it will remain so, so long as her people wish to remain autonomous of the foreign domination of her would-be masters — in this case, international bankers.
On April 9, the fiercely independent people of island-nation defeated a referendum that would have bailed out the UK and the Netherlands who had covered the deposits of British and Dutch investors who had lost funds in Icesave bank in 2008.The lesson here is instructive across the pond, but it is a chilling one. If the U.S. — or any sovereign for that matter — attempts to restructure their debts, or to force private investors to take a haircut on their own foolish gambles, these international institutions have promised the equivalent of economic war in response. However, the alternative is for representative governments to sacrifice their independence to a cadre of faceless bankers who share no allegiance to any nation.
It is the conflict that has already defined the beginning of the 21st Century. The question is whether free peoples will choose to remain free, as Iceland has, or to submit." Full Article Here

"Of the 236,642 registered voters in Waukesha on Nov 2, 2004 apparently 231,031 of them came out in a hint of rain and drizzle and did their civic duty.
Just to put this in perspective, Australia has compulsory (mandatory) voting and their turnout is 95%.
The estimated population of Waukesha in July of 2004 was 375,350 with 91,530 residents under the age of 18. (source) Leaving out solely residents under the age of 18 that leaves 283,820 residents that are of voting age (remember that number, it will be referenced again). That's an 83% voter registration number which is well above both the national average and Wisconsin's average.

GOP Shock Doctrine: What Gov't Shutdown And Other GOP Assaults on Democracy Are Really All About | | AlterNet
NOTE:This Article is a few days old but examines "shock doctrine" theory, which will continue to be important to understand. Naomi Klien is the author of the book by the title "Shock Doctrine".
"The government appears headed toward a shutdown, but the sticking point is not the budget – Democrats have already caved to most of the GOP's fiscal demands. At issue today are two riders on which the GOP won't budge. The first would defund Planned Parenthood in order to deny low-income women a source of publicly funded healthcare. The second would prevent the EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions. These things could potentially be restored by a future Congress, but, politically, it's always more difficult to do so – in an inevitable battle with the religious right and energy lobbyists, respectively – than it is to maintain the status quo.
Consider the midnight shenanigans the GOP used to ram Scott Walker's atrocious union-busting bill through the Wisconsin legislature. Collective bargaining rights could potentially be restored by a future legislature, but labor, once defanged, would have no clout to bring to that battle."

"In 2010, an investigation by the Investigative Reporting Workshop at the American University School of Communication revealed that, between 1999-2009, the nuclear power industry spent $645 million on federal lobbying -- more than $1 million a week.
Kevin Kamp of Beyond Nuclear also noted that contrary to how Sen. Bingaman, a Democrat and chairman of the Senate Energy and Resources Committee, is portrayed by his spokeswoman McCartin, he's also known as the "senator from Los Alamos."
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Bingaman's top donor over his career has been the Los Alamos National Laboratory, birthplace of the atomic bomb. The Illinois-based Exelon Corporation, the nation's largest owner and operator of nuclear power plants, is another of Bingaman's major contributors and a prominent campaign contributor to President Obama."
"In a statement released to AlterNet, Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said, "American energy policy should focus on supporting the job-creating workhorses like renewable energy, rather than those continually in need of gift horses, like the nuclear industry."
Markey added, "Unfortunately, House Republicans are including $18.5 billion for loan guarantees for nuclear power in their spending bill, H.R.1, while repealing every last cent of loan guarantees for wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, and a smart grid."
Fred Upton (R-MI), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, did not respond to a request for comment for this article."
Renewables Also Much Safer for Taxpayers
In addition to renewable energy's ability to produce far more jobs, the nuclear industry's rate of default on government loans is over 50 percent, according to the Government Accountability Office.
"Pollin, who as a consultant to the Obama administration, says he's certainly not "anti-Obama," said he's frustrated that the president still supports such massive funding of nuclear energy when renewable energy "is obviously the new energy source for the future."

"Please note that the rapid increase in the national debt started in the 1980's, when we began allowing large corporations to contribute less than their share. With income levels for We the People stagnant — actually, after taxes, our income has decreased during this period — it's little wonder that our deficit and our debt have grown. Corporations decided to lobby and bully our government so they could contribute less to America. We the People have worked hard and done all we can, but we just haven't been able to make up the difference.
This national debt can no more be blamed on We the People than the Great Recession, but corporate interests and the politicians who serve them are trying to make us pay for both. We will not stand for this."
