Sen. Sanders introduced a resolution which called on Congress to stand up for the Clean Air Act. Thirty-three senators have already co-sponsored Sanders' proposal. Under attack from House Republicans and some senators, the Clean Air Act saves 160,000 Americans from premature death every year and has reduced major air pollution by 41 percent over the last 20 years even as the economy grew by 64 percent.

"Republicans and the Koch brothers hired physicist Richard Muller in yet another attempt to disprove climate change.

But when he presented his findings at a House hearing last week, the Republicans who called him there must have been absolutely squirming. See that black line on the chart below? That’s Dr. Muller’s data. And it echoes what the rest of us already know: Climate change is real."

" The Kochs donated directly to 62 of the 87 members of the House GOP freshman class...and to 12 of the new members of the U.S. Senate.

No wonder, then, how that continuing resolution -- the means for funding the government when a budget has not been passed into law -- managed to get through the House. (It was subsequently rejected by the Senate, setting the stage for a possible shutdown of the government at the end of this week.) Those 62 Koch-backed freshmen are essentially driving the agenda of the House Republicans, because together they form a large enough bloc to prevent House Speaker John Boehner from amassing a majority on any piece of legislation, should they choose to, despite the 2010 Republican victories that handed control of the House to the GOP."

"Supreme Court candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg declared victory Wednesday, based on results reported by the Associated Press.

The Associated Press shows Kloppenburg received 740,090 votes and incumbent David Prosser received 739,886 votes. The margin is 204 votes.

In a statement, Kloppenburg said:

“We owe Justice Prosser our gratitude for his more than 30 years of public service. Wisconsin voters have spoken and I am grateful for, and humbled by, their confidence and trust. I will be independent and impartial and I will decide cases based on the facts and the law. As I have traveled the State, people tell me they believe partisan politics do not belong in our Courts. I look forward to bringing new blood to the Supreme Court and focusing my energy on the important work Wisconsin residents elect Supreme Court justices to do.”"

"His is the boyishly handsome face and cheery demeanor of free market fundamentalism—a philosophy that has devastated his own district with particularly acute suffering. And now, as the new chair of the House Budget Committee, Ryan promises more devastation for the rest of the nation.

“Paul Ryan is a phony and a disaster,” says John Dohner, president of Local 95 of the United Auto Workers in Janesville, Ryan’s hometown. “The people I know aren’t fooled by his smile or surprised by his votes. They see him as a slickster, not a friend.”"

Wisconsin Election Turns Into Referendum on Governor - NYTimes.com

Wisconsin Election Turns Into Referendum on Governor - NYTimes.com

"Fights over the agenda of Wisconsin’s newly powerful Republicans, including cuts to collective bargaining rights, have turned this quiet judicial match into a bitter, expensive, highly personal and politicized battle, inflamed with advertising dollars expected to reach into the millions from outside liberal and conservative groups, including the Tea Party Express.

The race has turned into a referendum on Wisconsin’s new Republican governor, Scott Walker, on his bill limiting collective bargaining rights for public workers, and, more broadly, on the Republican politicians who now control the Capitol. “This has really become a proxy battle for the governor’s positions and much less a fight about the court itself,” said Charles H. Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison."

No Winner Yet in Wisconsin Supreme Court Election

A contest for the Wisconsin Supreme Court that some voters viewed as a referendum on the state’s Republican leaders and their cuts to collective bargaining rights remained in a virtual tie Wednesday morning....

"Until emotions boiled over in the state capital weeks ago on questions over labor unions, public workers and budget cutting, Justice David T. Prosser, who was seen by some as part of a conservative majority on the court, had been widely expected to coast to a second 10-year term.

But election officials reported an extremely tight race as Tuesday night wore on, with a higher than expected turnout: Justice Prosser was in a dead heat with JoAnne Kloppenburg, an assistant attorney general who was not widely known through the state before this race. With all but a few of the state’s voting districts reported Wednesday morning, Ms. Kloppenburg was leading by 311 votes among more than 1.4 million cast. The leader had flipped again and again throughout the night on Tuesday."

"According to results of Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday morning, the percentage of Floridians who now approve of Gov. Rick Scott's (R) job performance has remained unchanged since two months ago. But at the same time, the percentage who disapprove of his job performance has more than doubled, putting his net approval rating deep underwater.

In the latest poll, a 48% plurality of registered voters now disapprove of how Scott has handled his job, a huge leap from February when only 22% of voters disapproved of the new Governor's job performance. Meanwhile, 35% of voters currently approve of Scott's job performance, the exact same percentage who gave Scott a thumbs up two months ago."

Attorney for @govwalker says Justice David Prosser is vital to anti-worker agenda http://thkpr.gs/ei77ap

Prosser originally billed his reelection campaign as being about “protecting the conservative judicial majority and acting as a common sense complement to both the new [Walker] administration and Legislature.” Recently, however, he has attempted to claim independence. But Hagedorn’s e-mail laid it plain to Walker’s supporters: elect Prosser, or the governor’s agenda is in peril. From the e-mail:

“If Justice Prosser loses:

* The Supreme Court will shift from a 4-3 conservative majority to a 4-3 liberal majority.

* Governor Walker’s agenda could be stopped in its tracks by this new activist majority.

* Union bosses and their allies will be emboldened and further push to recall the brave Senators who voted for Governor Walker’s budget repair bill.

* (Chief Justice) Shirley Abrahamson and her allies will continue to drag down the reputation of the Court, with an additional vote to further push through their radical agenda.”

Turn your house into a billboard, get free mortgage money.cnn.com
Startup advertising firm Adzookie wants to turn homes into massive billboards. In exchange, the company will pay the house's mortgage.

"The home billboard scheme could raise the company's profile -- but don't expect too many homes to score the subsidized deal. Mendoza's budget for the entire program is $100,000, and he expects to spend about $8,000 per house on the painting alone.

At the end of the agreement, Adzookie will paint the house back to its original colors. Leases and rentals aren't allowed, nor are homes in cities with bylaws that would prohibit the bright painting."

RT @geoff9cow: "Too Close to Call In WI, As Challenger Wrestles Walker Justice to a Virtual Tie" John Nichols http://tinyurl.com/3fey4ch...

"Unknown sixth months ago, unviable six weeks ago, first-time candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg has wrestled a senior justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court to an electoral tie. And in so doing she has opened a remarkable new chapter in the story of the political uprising that began when Republican Governor Scott Walker launched his assault on public employee unions, public schools and local democracy in Wisconsin."

"There could be weeks, even months of wrangling over ballots and counts. But one result has already been confirmed: The referendum on Walker’s policies has sent an important signal. When a candidate who is not given a chance ties a senior justice on the state Supreme Court, when a newcomer ties one of the most entrenched political players in the state, and when these results can be linked to fury at a governor’s policies, that governor has nothing to celebrate. Something is changing in Wisconsin. A new politics is taking shape. And JoAnne Kloppenburg has been a beneficiary – along with the battered but unbeaten state of Wisconsin."
