While reluctantly admitting that Texas faces fiscal challenges the Governor refused to acknowledge a $30 billion deficit. It seems that Texas does not do shortfalls much less deficits. But Mr. Perry did concede that the budget was such that school funding would be deeply cut. The Governor assured t...

"Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David ProsserEmbattled Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser is in the spotlight once again, this time for a conflict-of-interest in a pending case involving Koch-funded Tea Party groups.
The case, Wisconsin Prosperity Network v. Myse, involves a challenge by Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity to proposed campaign disclosure rules passed in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United decision (and subsequently enjoined by the Wisconsin Supreme Court). Attorney Jim Troupis is arguing against the transparency requirements on behalf of Americans for Prosperity and the other Tea Party-affiliated groups. Troupis Law Office was also paid $75,000 by Justice Prosser to represent him during last spring's contentious supreme court election recount."

"“It’s all P.R. — none of it is substantive,” Mark Miller, the Democrats’ minority leader in the Wisconsin State Senate, said earlier this month, before Mr. Walker held what some described as a “cordial” meeting with the Democratic leaders last week.
Whatever the true substance of the offers, the recent tones in Ohio and Wisconsin do appear to show one thing: With threats of recalls and bill repeals, with public dismay in recent months over the partisan stalemate in Washington on the debt ceiling, and with battleground-state presidential politics looming in 2012, governing with majorities has turned out in some states to be more complicated than it may have first appeared." "The NY Times writes that Scott Walker and John Kasich, faced with low approval ratings, have come up with a novel idea. "Negotiate!" say the two tea partiers posing as Republicans. A bit late! With the right-wing-anti-middle-class agenda now in the books, the Democrats would have a screw loose to start bargaining now because the leopard does not change his spots and tea partiers proved in Minnesota and in Congress that they would die rather than compromise. So dream on NYT--it ain't happening." Full Article Here

"Because the money boys raise the lion's share of campaign money, they can control the agenda in Congress and the state Legislature. When Democrats controlled the Legislature and the governor's office, they did not, for example, eliminate payday loans, nor did they institute publicly financed elections. Were their efforts half-hearted because Democrats did not want to offend the payday loan people, who write campaign checks? Frankly, money has corrupted our government. And there is no relief in sight.
Many who have tried to bring reform to our elections have concluded that there is in reality only one big political party with two branches. A dollar bill is the party logo. The lobbyists are in control.
As Texan Jim Hightower jokes, when asked if we need a third party: "Heck, I'd settle for a second party!"" Full Article Here

Obama administration tries to stop prosecution of banks | It's Our Economy
President Obama got more money from banksters than any candidate for any office in history, and responded by bailing them out for their scams gone bad, leaving millions to lose their homes and other millions to lose their jobs. Now Obama is putting pressure on New York's Attorney General to block prosecution of the big banks, while raising record amounts from Wall Street. Corruption?
In mid-May, I wrote about the commendable — one might say heroic — efforts of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to single-handedly impose meaningful accountability on Wall Street banks for their role in the 2008 financial crisis and the mortgage fraud/foreclosure schemes. Not only was Sch...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
