Arianna Huffington: What Hurricane Irene Can Teach Us About the Jobs Crisis

If only the media could spring into action about the jobs crisis as quickly and as efficiently as they did during Hurricane Irene.

The response to Hurricane Irene showed that when the media devote wall-to-wall attention to something, and government officials bring a sense of urgency and ask the public to respond in kind, remarkable things can happen. The question is: why do we reserve this kind of collective action for natural ...

"Millions of Americans have tried in recent months to communicate with our representatives in Congress. We expressed the urgent need for consumer/financial protection, Wall Street reform, campaign finance reform, tax code reform, and of course jobs. We also tried to weigh in on the manufactured crisis that partisan politicians chose to focus upon instead. But our elected representatives were not able to hear us."
