Media Blackout: CNN Fox News and MSNBC Ignore 100,000 WI Protesters
February 26, 2011 | By Jason EasleyReposted in Michigan Stands for Democracy by |Richard T. Rapscallion Jr.
"Over 100,000 people in Madison, Wisconsin were joined by thousands of other Americans around the country in protest of Gov. Scott Walker’s attempt to strip collective bargaining rights from the state’s unionized workers, but you would not have known any of this if you watched cable news on Saturday as the coverage of the protests ranged from disappointing (MSNBC) to scant (CNN) to non-existent (Fox News). Full Article | politicususa.com
All three cable networks share something else in common besides their decision to ignore today’s rallies. CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News along with most other forms of media have decided that liberal protests aren’t newsworthy. They believe that the ratings and the money are in the right, not the left. The three cable networks are corporate owned and only for the purpose of profit. They don’t care about journalism or their obligation to inform the public.
This is all about dollars, and the outdated notion that the most profitable way to run a cable news outlet is to be like Fox News, which is why CNN keeps hiring more and more right wingers and has hopped into bed with the Tea Party Express.
There is a deeper bias evident in the case of the Wisconsin rallies. The corporate ownership of these networks, like most businesses, is anti-union. They assume that all of America is also anti-union, and they have conveniently ignored all the polling that shows the American people are behind the protesters in order to rationalize ignoring the protests. Craigslist ad for right-wing commenters draws suspicion and a few giggles | Posted | National Post
“Your writing must be strong, right-wing and use the supplied talking points without being bogged down in too much detail,” the ad reads. “You are creating an online persona with a consistent tone.”
Successful applicants will be compensated at an hourly rate that is yet to be determined, according to the ad. “Bonuses for controversial postings that heat up a topic or forums thread.” Oh, and humour is most certainly encouraged.
Sadly, spelling is not this poster’s strong suit. The company urges applicants to find facts that will “stir controversey [sic],” and says they should be “repating [sic] key talking points,” in their posts. One need not submit a resume – a written audition will suffice. Applicants are asked to write a 100 word comment to correspond with a provided headline “Ignatieff Promises No Coallitions [sic] after Election.”

NY Times article points out that we can't blame teachers for low test
scores, we as a society are failing to value education and cutting
funding. Gov Walker is making this worse by cutting investment in our
children by almost $1 billion. If you want schools to improve, give
teachers the resources and respect they deserve.

"changes to a corporate tax law proposed in Walker's budget may mean businesses would pay the state about $46 million less in taxes over the next two years — and $40 million less each year after that. " Who does this law favor? Well, let's just say it reads like a who's who of Walker donor/contributors.

The Tables Turn in Town Halls, and Maybe DC | The Nation
"Over the past two weeks, town halls are once again a big political story. Ever since Republicans in the House of Representatives passed Representative Paul Ryan’s draconian budget, which cuts taxes on top earners while essentially ending Medicare, there have been widespread reports of angry voters challenging Republicans who voted for it.
This time, to the extent AFP is involved, they are mainly playing defense. The Democratic National Committee's (DNC) Hari Sevugin tweets that AFP may be busing some people to Ryan town halls to help him counter the constituents that are critical of him.
Slate’s Dave Weigel has also reported that the American Action Network, a front group for several Wall Street investment bankers, also tried to stem the tide of constituent anger by providing lists of possible softball questions for anyone interested in attending a town hall in support of Ryan’s plan."

Art Exhibition | Allegories of Good and Bad Government
ALLEGORIES OF GOOD AND BAD GOVERNMENT
23.04 - 29.05.2011
In the context of the exhibition Allegories of Good and Bad Government artists and politicians live together from May 1 to 4 to participate day and night in an intensive debate concerning the deeply rooted connections between their practices. Their aim: to come to an understanding and break through the status-quo that defines the current relationship between art and politics.
From April 23 through May 29 the exhibition is opened daily from 12 PM until 6 PM. Between May 1 and 4 the space where the debate takes place is not accessible to the public, but the debate can be followed in written form on a screen in the exhibition space. From 8:30 PM to 11 PM all spaces are open and visitors are welcome to speak with the participants. The conversation can also be followed through this web site.
Free admission.
