This is great! Maybe finally a journalist can be paid to investigate our crappy elections system and expose some of the more onerous election authorities... just to be current they could start in Wisconsin, where the Kloppenburg/Prosser Supreme Court election is in chaos due to dozens of gross irregularities, such as torn open ballot bags, hundreds of sequential ballots for the same guy, no real ballots chain of cust

Move Over Machiavelli: WI GOP Kills Public Financing to Pay for Voter Suppression

"You are a new Governor pursuing a radical, budget slashing agenda. In your spare time, you work to pass the most restrictive Voter ID law in the nation, which turns out to be quite costly. What to do? Here is an idea. To pay for your voter suppression efforts, why not rob public financing for elections, a system designed to encourage a diversity of candidates and a flourishing of democracy?
That is exactly what Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and the WI GOP did this week when they raided the money set aside for the public financing of campaigns to pay for “the most radical Voter ID bill in the nation” according to Wisconsin Common Cause.
The move would kill a 34 year tradition of public financing for elections in Wisconsin. All public financing for state political races would end. Instead the fund would be used to implement AB7 a “Voter ID” bill originally spawned by the conservative American Legislative Exchange Committee (ALEC). Full Article | Common Dreams

With Waukesha County's plodding recount in the Supreme Court now over and with Justice David Prosser's statewide win almost certain to be certified as early as Monday, the state's top election official said lessons from the recount will not be ignored.

"Now is the time to consult with election integrity experts on “best practices” for ensuring that future election processes are above reproach. I am particularly concerned about the current practice of feeding ballots back into the voting machines during a recount. (Those who doubt that voting machines can be tampered with need only to see “Hacking Democracy” on youtube.com). If there has been any problem with the machine, election officials will not discover it unless they hand count both the ballots and the votes. During a recount, this “cross check” against machine totals is crucial. If no differences are found in the hand counted tallies when compared against the machine counted results, we can know with 100% assurance that the machines performed properly and the count is accurate. If, however, discrepancies are discovered, we will all be very grateful to have identified that problem and appropriate measures can be taken to prevent a similar problem in future elections. Unfortunately, when we simply feed the ballots back into the machine during a recount, we can expect nothing other than the same results that were recorded during the first election. Those results will not reveal any evidence of tampering or malfunction. Hand counting paper ballots is the “gold standard” for election integrity."

"But as the Green Bay Progressive website pointed out at the time, the "burglars" must have been torn to shreds entering through the window that still contained broken shards of glass along the bottom of the broken window. Given the complete lack of blood in the office, however, some of us wondered if the "burglars" were able to float through the jagged hole, thus avoiding any injury. The most practical folks simply concluded that the "break-in" was staged. Of note, the outcome of the official police investigation has never been discussed in the press.
The suspicious nature of the "break-in" led some of us to question if the organizer of the "Recall Dave Hansen" campaign might really be capable of such an act. After all, being an angry conservative is one thing, but filing a false police report, staging a crime, and attempting to frame your opponents is quite another. Some of those actions are illegal, some unethical, and some both." Article Here | Daily Kos

Great news from New Jersey!
NJ Supreme Court Orders State To Restore $500 Million In Education Funding Stripped By Gov. Christie
thinkprogress.org
Yesterday, however, the justices reminded Christie that he is not allowed to thumb his nose at the state constitution, and it ordered the state to restore $500 million that had been stripped from the state’s most needy districts. As the court’s official summary of the opinion explains...
"Yesterday’s decision opens a hopeful new chapter for children in struggling school districts. At least 19 state supreme courts have held that their states’ substandard public schools for low-income students violates the state constitution, but these decisions often fall into a predictable pattern. The court orders the state to fix its substandard school districts, the state delays for 20 years or more, and eventually, the state supreme court loses its will and backs down.
Christie clearly hoped that the New Jersey supremes would follow this all-too-common pattern and back away from New Jersey’s constitutional guarantee that an excellent education is every child’s birthright. But when Christie tried to stare the court down, the justices refused to blink.
Yesterday was not a total victory for New Jersey’s school children — the court restored funding to many of the state’s poorest districts, but it declined to restore cuts that benefit struggling students in wealthier districts. Nevertheless, it is a clear rebuke to Chris Christie, and a reminder that conservative governors flout their states’ constitution." Full Article Here | ThinkProgress

The state president of the NAACP was among a group of people arrested Tuesday afternoon during a protest at the General Assembly.
"State Capitol Police escorted about a half-dozen people, including North Carolina NAACP President Rev. William Barber, from the House gallery after shouts of protest erupted over the state budget.
The arrests came shortly before an NAACP-sponsored rally at the Legislative Building.
Barber has called the budget the House passed three weeks ago "a frontal assault on economic justice in North Carolina." He and other protesters said House Speaker Thom Tillis has ignored repeated requests for a sit-down meeting about the budget."Full Article :: WRAL.com

"A permanent, online web cache of photo stills revealing just *some* of the GLARING and ALARMING ballot "irregularities" recently seen during the STATE WIDE (VIRTUAL) HAND RECOUNT of the SUPREME COURT ELECTION, held on April 5th, 2011.
The following was recently compiled through the collective efforts and shared documentation from many wonderful citizen observers from all over the Great Badger State of WI. The EI community commends them for all their diligence, tenacity and hard work, and thanks them for the important contribution it's lending to *all* American Voters. This kind of real time photographic documentation of evidence in real time is, to our knowledge completely unprecedented. Amazing..."https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150198240924784.328197.308145459783
"I am urging everyone to join the Election Integrity Group... There is a "ground swell" here about Election Fraud. You will be able to follow conversations between local and national people about the situation here in Wisconsin. Become informed directly, view primary documents, make up your own mind... and help put the pressure on the media to end the silence about this most insidious situation. We MUST become informed and inform others about Election Fraud if we want to turn our situation in Wisconsin and in this country around. It is time to RISE up again and become informed and inform others about ELECTION FRAUD.... JOIN THIS GROUP NOW | Election Integrity"

"I second! If you have joined any groups in connection with the last 3 months in Fitzwalkerstan, you should also join this one. It all comes down to elections and if we can't ensure they are fair, nothing else we are doing will matter. Please join the group, follow along silently or chime in anytime, but this is it. This is how we get rid of Walker."
This is a follow up Post....

Oooh Darling,
do you remember us-- you know those folks in State Senate District 8? We are voters and taxpayers too! Your terrible distortion of labor costs, limited vocabulary, and talking points are making you quite predictable. You are being recalled because you refuse to listen not because you are the easiest of targets or the first sacrificial lamb out of the gate... You are what you are; a bad representative
