Chris Hedges' Columns: Why the United States Is Destroying Its Education System
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/why_the_united_states_is_destroying_her_education_system_20110410/
A nation that destroys its systems of education, degrades its public information, guts its public libraries and turns its airwaves into vehicles for cheap, mindless amusement becomes deaf, dumb and blind. It prizes test scores above critical thinking and literacy. It celebrates rote vocational training and the singular, amoral skill of making money. It churns out stunted human products, lacking the capacity and vocabulary to challenge the assumptions and structures of the corporate state. It funnels them into a caste system of drones and systems managers. It transforms a democratic state into a feudal system of corporate masters and serfs.

WASHINGTON -- Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) has admitted regret over ordering his Department of Labor to remove a mural depicting the state's labor history from its lobby in the middle of the legislative session. Since he made his announcement, protesters have threatened to form a human chain and the federal government has stepped in.
Inadvertently, the move also made the mural larger than life -- literally. Late at night on April 2, a group of three artists calling themselves "BrokeFix" visited Maine's capitol building in Augusta. Running a projector out of their car, they projected a large image of the mural onto the capitol's edifice for FULL ARTICLE: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/11/maine-labor-mural-brokefix-photo-bombing_n_847091.html?fbwall

The Koch Brothers: Dark Lords of Derivatives - By Yasha Levine - The eXiled
"People don’t seem that interested in talking about Wall Street’s unpunished and ongoing rape of America anymore these days. And that’s too bad. Because Koch Industries has a lot more in common with Wall Street than most people realize."
"Here’s a hint to how deeply the Kochs are involved in the same shady financial machinations we usually associate with Wall Street scammers: an investigation just released by the Center for the Public Interest reveals that the Kochs were major players in the fight against financial regulation in 2009 and 2010, bankrolling an army of lobbyists who swarmed Congress and shredded the fin-reg bill."

"There have been rays of hope for progressives recently, notably in the Wisconsin uprising against Governor Walker's union-busting jihad and in Glenn Beck's impending departure from Fox News, after strong critical campaigns by Color Of Change, the Jewish Fund for Justice and others, focusing on Beck's racism and obsession with Nazism.
But let's face it: progressives are perpetually put on the defensive by the right-wing media, and so are Obama and the Democrats, for that matter. The relentless conservative propaganda machine dominates the public discourse more than ever. The alarming result is that, according to a number of polls, the constant repetition of conservative disinformation results in many Americans increasingly denying reality."

An old, but excellent analysis. Add to this their denial of climate change, etc. "Here are the facts. “several psychological variables predicted political conservatism.” "Death anxiety, system instability, dogmatism/intolerance of ambiguity, closed-mindedness, low tolerance of uncertainty, high needs for order, structure, and closure, low integrative complexity, fear of threat and loss, and low self-esteem."
Death Fear (among other unsavory attributes) Predicts Republicanism By William Todd Schultz, PhD...
“...several psychological variables predicted political conservatism.” Which variables exactly? In order of predictive power: Death anxiety, system instability, dogmatism/intolerance of ambiguity, closed-mindedness, low tolerance of uncertainty, high needs for order, structure, and closure, low integrative complexity, fear of threat and loss, and low self-esteem. The researchers conclude, a little chillingly, that “the core ideology of conservatism stresses resistance to change and a justification of inequality.” Full Article Here | Psychology Today
