Waukesha County Gets May 26 Recount Extension - Waukesha, WI Patch

"Waukesha County doubled its number of tabulators starting this morning and moved its operations to the larger cafeteria in the Waukesha County Administration Building to increase the number of election reporting units being processed simultaneously. Nowak said the expanded operation was "going well."

Votes in the Villages of Lisbon and Merton were being recounted this morning. Tomorrow will be the city of Waukesha.

Waukesha County is continuing to livestream its recount. The new camera angle in the move to the cafeteria, however, only shows the head table for the judge, board of canvassers, court reporter and lead campaign representatives, and does not show the tabulation and recount activity.

The recount of the City of
Brookfield's votes finished on Saturday, and included disputes about ballot bags that were not entirely sealed, setting up a
possible legal challenge to counting those votes. "See Full Article | WI Patch

Know what is going on here. The Democrats are challenging EVERYTHING, even if a ballot has a little smudge on it. How do I know this? Because I spent 5 1/2 hrs as a observer with complete access to the tally room. The goal is to have enough challenges to take this whole election to the courts and if assigned to a Madison liberal judge, sheeesch, maybe have the whole election thrown out and done all over again.
When the liberal Democrats can't win at the ballot box, they go to the courts. People with common sense (conservatives) need to fight back!!!!!!!

The Wisconsin Supreme Court recount deadline is now being extended, from its original May 9 to May 26, due to slowness in one county -- Waukesha County, which has been at the center of the vote-counting controversies in the race between conservative incumbent Justice David Prosser and liberal-backed challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg.

We've all heard of the "New Badger Partnership," the brainchild of Gov. Walker and UW-Madison Chancellor Martin to sever Madison from the UW-System and turn them into a "public authority." Wisconsin is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to systematically dismantling and privatizing social institutions we rely on. The University of Oregon is currently facing the "New Partnership," a surprisingly similar plan that will break apart the University of Oregon System. Here's an article by UofO Student Body President Amelie Rousseau that discusses what this means to U of O and discusses parallels between the two new "Partnerships."

I commend our university’s leadership for putting forward a proactive idea, but empowering private stakeholders with large financial influence over our public university is not the answer.

The BRAD BLOG : Clay County, KY Election Officials Sentenced to 156 Years in Election Rigging Case; ALSO: Voting Machines Impounded in Perry County, KY

By Brad Friedman on 5/9/2011 5:39pm

"It is now officially impossible to know whether thousands of paper ballots being counted in the state of Wisconsin's Supreme Court election "recount" are the same ones actually cast on Election Day. It didn't have to be that way, unlike in Kentucky, where the voters never had a chance, and where high-ranking election officials have now been sentenced to more than 150 years in federal jail following "decades" of manipulated elections.

Thanks to serious chain of custody violations in Wisconsin --- such as ballot bags discovered to have been left "wide open" and unsealed in Waukesha County, and ballots left completely unsecured for weeks in the office of the Verona City Clerk in Dane County --- that now make it quite likely the real winner of the April 5th election for a 10-year term on the bench of that state's highest court will never be known for certain. That, even though thousands of votes have now been verified as having been miscounted during the state's partial hand-count, and even as the hotly-contested seat in question will determine the ideological balance of the court during one of the most contentious moments in Badger State history.

The majority of voters in Wisconsin cast their votes on hand-marked paper ballots. However, due to a failure to count those ballots publicly on Election Night, at the precinct, in front of the public (as per "Democracy's Gold Standard"), citizens are left guessing and forced to place misguided trust in partisan election officials like GOP activist and Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus and her unsecure chain of custody and election reporting procedures.

With results that will never be known for certain, the razor-thin contest has now become a fully "faith-based election", in contradiction to the checks and balances necessary for true self-governance.

But where Wisconsin could have had an overseeable and fully verifiable election in which voters might have had confidence, voters in Kentucky, for years, never even had a chance as they were forced to vote on 100% unverifiable touch-screen voting machines.

The good-ish news? That is changing, as much of the Bluegrass State is finally turning to the use of hand-marked paper ballots, though they plan on tallying them similarly to Wisconsin, via oft-failed, easily-manipulated optical-scan systems manufactured by private vendors, rather than counting them transparently in front of the public." As the Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade wound its way through the streets of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, protesters waiting around every turn in to voice their displeasure in the state's new financial manager law.

Groups of demonstrators from around Michigan and even from out of state took advantage of the public appearance by Governor Snyder to raise their voices against the Michigan's new emergency financial manager law. The law gives EFM's like Benton Harbor's Joseph Harris the authority to dissolve local governmental bodies.

Some protesters, led by the AFL-CIA, came from as far away as Kentucky.

"People are waking up," said Betsy Coffia, who traveled from Traverse City, Mich. to protest the parade. "Michigan didn't have a Wisconsin, things just sneaked in behind us. We're starting to realize that unless we the people start getting engaged, and make our voices heard, we're going to lose what we thought we had."

"...said retired Circuit Court Judge Robert Mawdsley, who's overseeing the county recount. In an interview, he agreed with objector Bill Hotz's observation that the bag opening from Brookfield was the largest seen so far.

Hotz said poorly sealed bags or torn bags appear to be a common problem, but they were evident on five of six Brookfield bags that were counted first thing Thursday. He objected to the counting of those ballots where bags appeared to be open.

Brandon O'Bryon, representing Justice David Prosser, objected to the objection, saying Brookfield voters would be disenfranchised if their votes weren't counted."Full Article - JSOnline.mobi
