Reportedly, the bank managers pulled a fire alarm as action began at the protest. This is not the first time the franchise has successfully shut down BoA’s operations."

"Why the attack? Because Cronon, the Frederick Jackson Turner and Vilas Research Professor of History, Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Rhodes Scholar and MacArthur Foundation fellow who has for decades been one of Wisconsin's most beloved public intellectuals, dared to raise questions about whether national right-wing think tanks and interest groups might be influencing the choices made by Gov. Scott Walker's administration to attack Wisconsin unions and initiate a power grab that even some Republicans worry will diminish democracy at the local level."

One Down 7 to go - Hopper up for Recall
"Efforts to recall Republican State Senator Randy Hopper from Fon du Lac have reached another milestone, as organizers issue a call for volunteers to turn in any remaining petitions to be counted. Organizer Scott Dillman says he's sure they have enough signatures to trigger the recall, but he can't give exact figures yet. He says, processing all the information they've collected so far will take a week. They need 15,000 signatures to trigger the recall and he had originally set a goal of 20,000 by April first. He says he should have set that goal higher. Once Dillman tallies and submits his petition, a candidate will have to step up to run against hopper in the recall, which could happen by this summer."

"The New York Times reported today that General Electric’s effective tax rate in 2010 was zero. Despite making $14.2 billion in profits, the company received $3.2 billion in tax benefits. GE is able to drive down its effective tax rate via “an aggressive strategy that mixes fierce lobbying for tax breaks and innovative accounting that enables it to concentrate its profits offshore.”"

"The latest technique used by conservatives to silence liberal academics is to demand copies of e-mails and other documents. Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli of Virginia tried it last year with a climate-change scientist, and now the Wisconsin Republican Party is doing it to a distinguished historian who dared to criticize the state’s new union-busting law. These demands not only abuse academic freedom, but make the instigators look like petty and medieval inquisitors."

Wisconsin Resists, a new coalition formed to stop Scott Walker's agenda, is calling for a rally at Dane County Courthouse at 8:30AM on Tuesday, March 29, Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi was right to issue a restraining order on the publication of the Budget Repair Bill. Scott Walker broke the law in ramming through this bill. As Judge Sumi has written:... "The failure to provide timely notice before a meeting... It's not a minor detail."
Now we need a strong show of public support to show opposition to Walker's contempt for democracy. Let's keep up the pressure to Kill the Bill!

How are the Recall efforts going? Did you help at all today? Did you protest? If not, no worries, you still have time to volunteer and help! Share your volunteer stories and experiences in the comments below! Also, How is the Grothman recall going? I haven't heard much chatter about that, yet he seems to be the most repulsive(to me at least)!

We got the shafted with the bill... and they're cutting our government services. We, the People, say "You Caused This Crisis. Now YOU Pay." (Inspired by UK Uncut across the pond as described in the Nation magazine)
We, the People, say "You Caused This Crisis. Now YOU Pay."
Corporate Billionaires got bonuses, bailouts, and tax breaks too.
We got the shafted with the bill... and they're cutting our government services.
We, the People, say "You Caused This Crisis. Now YOU Pay."
It's time we take our government back. It's time corporate billionaires pay their fair share
US Uncut is a nationwide progressive grassroots protest movement.
-Because states are hemorrhaging public sector jobs amidst unnecessary draconian budget cuts and low tax revenue,
-Because 2/3rds of American corporations don't pay any income taxes,
-Because multi-billionaire headliners of the Fortune 500 list like Bank of America, GE, ExxonMobil, Citibank and others paid no income taxes in 2009,
-Because corporate tax dodgers cost the U.S. Treasury approximately $100 billion a year and $1 trillion every decade in lost tax revenue,
-Because hard-working public sector employees from California to London don't deserve to lose their jobs because of leadership failing to hold tax cheats accountable,
US Uncut has risen up to stand and say enough is enough.
Before one more teacher is fired,
Before one more police officer is given a pink slip,
Before one more honest state employee has to come home and tell their family they'll have to depend on EBT and unemployment checks to keep food on the table,
Our leaders have an obligation to make the richest of the rich pay their fair share in taxes like everyone else.
US Uncut is a non-partisan, grassroots progressive protest movement.
We're doing this of our own free will, without the financing of oil billionaires like the Koch Brothers, and without a major cable news network to do our own PR.
We aim to make our voices heard by finding the most egregious tax dodgers in this country, shutting down local branches of their businesses and refusing them the opportunity to earn income until they pay income taxes in the United States.
We are organizing via Twitter, Facebook and word of mouth. Stay tuned to this page for updates and protest locations/dates/times. US Uncut is currently organizing in-
Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico,New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Washington,West, Virginia, Wisconsin, Washington, D.C.

Scott Walker Kills His Wisconsin Union Busting Bill By Publishing It
"...In any case, this won’t be the Wisconsin Republicans first run at violating the law in order to push their anti-union measure through.
It’s obvious from recent events, including the Wisconsin Republicans attempting to intimidate a Professor who wrote a critical article about their actions for the New York Times by demanding his emails through the Wisconsin Open Records law, that the Republicans are desperate. Apparently they are so desperate that they are no longer trying to hide their agenda under the guise of a budget issue, let alone pretend what they are doing is legal."

"“TUC’s March for the Alternative” protesters spanned as far as the eye could see and were comprised of socially diverse marchers, including non-labor movement groups, pensioners, lawyers and families. It took over 800 buses and dozens of trains to transport them all to the capital, where thousands of police were dispatched to keep order. Breakaway protesters, including the group UK Uncut, were planning to occupy an area in Oxford Circus.
The organizers of the protest, TUC, say that their goal is for their government, led by David Cameron, to reconsider their current approach of spending cuts with no tax increases, an approach that has already led to massive unemployment with at least 50,000 more jobs slated to be cut and 170,000 public sector jobs at risk while corporations are not paying a fair share of the taxes.
The marchers got started fifteen minutes earlier than expected and were led by labor movement as well as people in wheelchairs, blowing whistles and calling for a general strike as they marched through central London from the Embankment to Hyde Park. Most of the protesters were peaceful, with the majority gathering in Hyde Park to listen to speeches."

Vital Signs: State GOP health bills mirror model ALEC legislation
Vital Signs: State GOP health bills mirror model ALEC legislation
"All the fuss this week over ALEC, a right-wing organization said to be the mastermind behind a nationwide wave of conservative proposals and laws, inspired me to look into whether the group has anything to do with a spate of recent health legislation from Gov. Scott Walker and Republican lawmakers.
My first step was to consult an online "study guide" about the shadowy American Legislative Exchange Council written by UW-Madison history professor William Cronon. (When I first wrote this post I had a working link to ALEC but the organization seems to have blocked access in the last 24 hours.) The state GOP has filed an open records request seeking access to Cronon's e-mails, and I was curious to see what they were upset about."
