"Four-time presidential candidate and consumer advocacy pioneer Ralph Nader visited the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point on April 19th, 2011 to discuss Earth Day and sustainability, national and state politics, consumer advocacy and his new book, "Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!" Nader answered questions from attendees and also hosted a book signing session. I do not belong to any organization.
I am just a citizen who is trying to get the word out and give the people of Michigan a chance to let their voices be heard. The rallies, protests, meetings, etc that I list I am not personally organizing. I am merely spreading the word about opportunities to let your voice be heard.
Figured there needed to be a central place for people to connect with others and find out information about the various rallies being organized at the State Capitol and around Michigan. Also have noticed people looking for rides to Lansing. So this will be a place to post information. Feel free to post to the wall and/or the discussion section of the page. If you know of any upcoming rallies, meetings and protests please post it on the wall.
I also need all the help I can get. This is a grass roots movement by the people of Michigan. We all must do what we can to make a difference! So feel free to post any of my event pages, rally listings, etc on any appropriate websites, facebook pages, and tell everyone you know!

Lansing — Filmmaker Michael Moore used Twitter to get demonstrators to Lansing for a huge Capitol rally.
A Facebook page run by voter Derek Stephens tracks Gov. Rick Snyder's stops so protesters can show their opposition to his policies. Videos of those protests quickly find their way onto YouTube.

Twitter users can find fake pages that parody the governor and his budget director.
As battles continue over Snyder's proposed budget and a beefed-up emergency manager law for financially troubled cities and school districts, the Republican governor is facing the power of social media like no Michigan leader before him.
"To mobilize like-minded individuals, social media, I think, is the best tool that's been invented so far," said Matt Friedman, a partner in the strategic communications company Tanner Friedman of Farmington Hills.
"Social media is approaching almost a critical mass now — it's instant, and it's personal."
It's also playing a central role in the early effort to recall Snyder after less than four months in office, with the most popular of a half-dozen such Facebook pages "liked" by more than 12,200 people.

IMPORTANT VIDEO: MAYOR OF LANSING MICHIGAN SPEAKS OUT ABOUT BENTON HARBOR | RACHEL MADDOW
WATCH VIDEO HEREThe Maddow Blog - Something to say about Benton Harbor
Posted on facebook by | The Rachel Maddow Show
Feeling mad about Benton Harbor, Michigan? Rev. Jesse Jackson's speaking out today, and last night on the show an outraged mayor.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson is reportedly heading to Benton Harbor, Michigan, today, the first city to have its elected officials sat down under the state's new emergency financial manager law.
"Our Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves at what's happening in Michigan. It is dire, and it is sad -- a sad day for democracy. It's really everything you said. It is taxation without representation. You know, it is the corporatization. We're seeing the corporatization of our Democratic process.
Today, in Michigan, they trained something -- the government is training 200 EFMs, emergency financial managers. This is an industry now that the administration is going to be in. They have lowered the bar for taking over cities.
It used to be -- EFMs were very rarely used. Their powers were circumscribed. They were to go in and deal with the finances and work with the powers that be.
Now, they are in charge. Now they can fire elected officials. It is unprecedented in Michigan and I think in America and it's dangerous." Mayor of Lansing Michigan

If it sometimes seems to you like everyone is casually tossing around the word "revolution" these days, you may be on to something. Along with "sustainability", the word "revolution" is the new buzzword. It's a heady thing to talk about revolution, but don't forget to ground yourself in the "classics" on the topic. Here's one, linked. This may seem like arcane, obscure shit, and much of it is. But there's a kernel of truth in there that endures...

What We Can All Do
XtraOrdinary | Times
THIS PAGE IS STILL UNDERCONSTRUCTION | but please take a look at it
Here in Wisconsin we are well into our third month of Protesting with no end in sight. Other states are facing equally upsetting battles. The work is consuming, energizing and tiring. We need everyone's help. This movement is spreading. Many of the political changes are creating fear and outrage and many people are asking what they can do to help stop the opponents. This is a call to action and is part of the waking up for many of us who have been part of the great political "sleeping giant". While I accept this notion, I think there are other ways to better understand the current situation and to stop blaming members of the extremely hard working majority of Americans.
I will be developing this page and posting it on occasion as a response to posts where people seem to want to further develop their "citizen-activist-practice".
Please feel free to use/spread all of this information. It is being developed to help this protest movement and is for the benefit of all.

Ways everyone can help.
1. Share this information, using electronic media, email, facebook, twitter,
2. Talk to friends, family, co-workers about what you are learning and how you feel about what is happening. Let them know that you concerned, and what steps you are taking and how it feels to become more vocal.
3. Add comments to the newspaper article...comments will bring the article to the attention of the writer and paper and in some cases place the article in a more prominent position on the electronic page. Any kind of activity will alert the publication and the writers to an interest in this topic and will generate more coverage in the future.
4.Make phone calls. Call your elected officials when you see that they are doing something that you support and something that you are opposed to. Enter the numbers in your phone and have the numbers easily available. A quick call will let them know that you are paying attention.. and that is critically important step. These people are our elected officials and need real feedback to best do their jobs.

Michigan DNR to propose closing 23 State Forest Campgrounds - theoaklandpress.com
I admit that I have never camped in a state forest campground, and I understand the state must make budget cuts because the revenue simply is not available. But that doesn’t mean I have to like this. I also question the timing of the release, which was made available Thursday, and the cynic in me insists that budget cuts are not equitable among every state department. Is this the first step down a slippery slope? Are more recreational opportunities going to be eliminated? Will user fees be increased so dramatically that the cost will be out of reach for many of us?
Ironically, at this very same meeting we are supposed to hear an update on the state’s Recreation Passport program. Instead of spending $24 for an annual motor vehicle permit or boating access permit, Michigan residents are now being asked to support the Recreation Passport with an optional $10 fee when renewing their vehicle registration with the Secretary of State. If only 1 out of every 4 motorists voluntarily choose to purchase a Recreation Passport, $18 million will be generated, which would be $7 million more than the previous system.
Dettloff said officials was expected to announce that the Recreation Passport is falling short of its goal of 25 percent participation. She said 20 percent — 1 in 5 people — are buying the $10 Recreation Passport. One reason for this is the fact that there has been no paid advertising campaign to support it — they don’t have the money, Dettloff said. They are hoping social media and word-of-mouth will help spread the news.
So here’s one person spreading the news: Michiganders, buy the Recreation Passport and get your friends and family and co-workers to do the same.
The future of our recreational opportunities, literally, hangs in the balance.
Rick Kessler of The Oakland Press has a blog about camping called the GR8 Lakes Camper found on TheOaklandPress.com."See Full Article - theoaklandpress.com
