Facebook Page | We Want Elizabeth Warren

We Want Elizabeth Warren

sorry these links are not live.. go to info page on FB...

This is a grassroots campaign to support the nomination and confirmation of a true champion of the middle class, Elizabeth Warren, to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Description
Harvard Law School Professor Elizabeth Warren developed the idea of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to help protect consumers from the abusive practices of the financial sector. In order for her to lead it, she must be nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate by July! The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Bankers Association and other K-Street lobbyists are working to destroy her chances because they fear her. We're sick of being abused by the banks! We're sick of being marginalized in the political process! We are creating the U.S. Chamber of Citizens to campaign for her appointment.

The persistent myths of the "self-correcting free market," the "invisible hand," and "trickle-down economics" are hurting America. With the Great Depression and now the Great Recession as irrefutable, empirical evidence, the American people are beginning to recognize the fact that the game on Wall Street is easily rigged, and, we must find ways to regulate it so that consumers are protected from abusive practices.

We the People will fight for a strong Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. There are many powerful and wealthy enemies of consumer protection, and often they express their power by inserting themselves into our political process through direct lobbying, shady campaign financing, and political advertising conglomerations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

We must demand a White House nomination and Senate confirmation of Elizabeth Warren as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The make-or-break period will be from now until July, and this will be a primary focus for Coffee Party USA, and all Americans who willing to stand up to the ruling elite, stand up for economic fairness, and reverse our path to "feudalism with cable TV."

Democracy on Hold in Benton Harbor | Truthout

Post on Bev Richey's Wall by | Joe Braun
Very comprehensive.

"While the country watched the protests in Wisconsin spill into the State Capitol Building, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder was passing a controversial bill that many consider a direct attack on the constitutional rights of the citizens of Michigan."

To keep a clean public image, Whirlpool funds and largely controls a nonprofit in Benton Harbor called the Cornerstone Alliance, which has a revolving door with Whirlpool and the Whirlpool Foundation for its staff members and employees.

Cornerstone has long served the interests of Whirlpool in Benton Harbor, creating a façade through which the company can pass off its actions as being in the interests of "the community."

"They're an arm of Whirlpool," says Carol Drake of Friends of Jean Klock Park.

Carol has been fighting for the preservation of the historic park against a consortium of developers led by Whirlpool. Her organization has tracked the evolution of developers' plans to seize the public park, which she says have been in the works for decades.

Their current project is called Harbor Shores, a $500 million golf resort to include luxury homes, a water park, high-end condominiums and other similar upscale amenities.

Egypt's Facebook Revolution: Wael Ghonim Thanks The Social Network

"I want to meet Mark Zuckerberg one day and thank him [...] I'm talking on behalf of Egypt. [...] This revolution started online. This revolution started on Facebook. This revolution started [...] in June 2010 when hundreds of thousands of Egyptians started collaborating content. We would post a video on Facebook that would be shared by 60,000 people on their walls within a few hours. I've always said that if you want to liberate a society just give them the Internet. Asmaa Mahfouz told Al-Mihwar TV that the first activity was on Facebook.

“Yes. I was angry that everybody was saying that we had to take action, but nobody was doing anything. So I wrote on Facebook: 'People, I am going to Tahrir Square today'. This was a week before January 25."

“I wrote that I was going to demand the...rights of my country. I wrote that I was 26 years old...,” the Middle East Media Research Institute quoted her as saying.

Asmaa said: “Whenever we talked to the people and told them to express their views, they would say: “Who can we talk to? We will be thrown in prison and tortured.’”

We are Really Vigilant about Trolls on our Site | Heartland Revolution

RESPONSE FROM HEARTLAND REVOLUTION

From | Heartland Revolution

Dear Bev,

Thank you so much for your email and we would greatly appreciate any help you can offer to get the word out. We are really vigilant about trolls on our site so go ahead and blast away on getting traffic to the page. We have seen that social networking can provide a great means to grow the movement while exposing what is really going on in the area affected. I look forward to working with you side-by-side as we end the tyranny that the majority of this nation is being subjected to.

Thank you,

My Letter to John Waltz of Heartland Revolution

Apr 21, 2011

Dear Heartland Revolution,

I am a Wisconsin Protester... I have been involved now for over two months with the uprising here... I have also been involved with a couple of Michigan groups following and connected with people there. It has been helpful for both states as we have been able to provide support and share info and strategies. It has been through our communications that we have been able to clearly identify the larger picture early on....and have a heads up for what we might be witnessing in our own states.

I have been primarily focused on the cyber-community. It has been quite a rapid development with a lot of mobilizing quickly to address the need for connection and communication. Just two weeks ago... a new page grew to five thousand people over the course of a weekend. This was an issue page related to the investigation of Kathy Nickolaus and voter fraud. While there was great excitement and energy with the development of this page there were for the first time many trolls. That was a tough weekend for all of us and our candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg got hit so hard she had to close down her FB page to public posts.

The Wisconsin protest cyber community had to learn how to protect itself from this situation. It turns out that there are two basic ways and one involves the attention of the administrator and the other is way to block oneself.

I am framing the situation as I would like to spread the word and encourage people to join the Heartland FB page as a way to follow the situation. I am encouraging citizens to serve as "cyber witnesseses". It means I would make the site more public and encourage people to let others know and the link would be posted on larger sites where we can find people beyond the midwest... I do not want to do this without your permission and without you understanding that if this was to happen we would NEED your help removing the trolls as quickly as possible...to keep the site safe for communications. I can be of assistance but we would need to discuss options for achieving this.

It is time for this movement to grow again and sites like yours are important gateways to information and interactivity. Please let me know if I should proceed to promote this site beyond the Wisconsin protest community. Please feel free to contact me by email or friend me on Facebook for a more direct connection...Bev Richey | Milwaukee.

Thank you for all your work and support of Benton Harbor and I look forward to continuing to connect with your organization as we grow this protest movement. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely Yours,

Bev Richey

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

P.S. Here is a link to one of the other Michigan Protest FB pages that I am archiving and recommending, I will do something similar for your page... the question is how much exposure do you want me/us to give it.

"Facebook has layered its executive, legal, policy and communications ranks with high-powered politicos from both parties, beefing up its firepower for future battles in Washington and beyond. There’s Sheryl Sandberg, the former Clinton administration official who is chief operating officer, and Ted Ullyot, a general counsel former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia who is general counsel, among others. The latest candidate is Robert Gibbs, President Obama’s former White House press secretary, whom Facebook is trying to lure to its communications team."
