Rep. McDermott: GOP Cuts to anti-poverty programs are ‘morally wrong’ + ‘fiscally stupid’ [VIDEO] http://thkpr.gs/gru6T1
"The current continuing resolution under which the federal government is operating expires on April 8, and at the moment, it seems that budget talks between House Republican leadership and Senate Democrats have broken down. Republicans want their spending bill — H.R. 1 — to “serve as a starting point for all negotiations” (even though Democrats have now upped the amount of spending cuts they’re willing to pass, alongside zero concessions from Republicans)."

NY has the highest income inequality in the US. Gov Cuomo is NOT helping this http://mojo.ly/gPvIXm

"There is no country in the industrial world with as great an income disparity between the rich and poor as the United States. And within the US, there is no state where the disparity is more pronounced than New York. New York City was the center of the Great Recession, and today unemployment there stands at 9 percent and is not expected to drop any time soon. At the same time, the financial sector that caused it all has recovered nicely, and the executives are pulling down salaries and perks larger than they did before the recession."

"Magnitudes: dirty money, lost taxes and offshore"
"The size of the offshore economy is hard to measure precisely, as a result of its fragmented nature, difficulties involved in defining it, and a pervasive culture of secrecy. International efforts to measure it often focus only on narrow aspects of it. For example, much effort is expended on measuring and tackling terrorist finances or (to a lesser extent) international bribery, but little attention is paid to problems on much, much larger scales -- such as commercial transfer mispricing abuses."

"SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (MarketWatch) — Yes, tax the Super Rich. Tax them now. Before the other 99% rise up, trigger a new American Revolution, a meltdown and the Great Depression 2.
Revolutions build over long periods — to critical mass, a flash point. Then they ignite suddenly, unpredictably. Like Egypt, started on a young Google executive’s Facebook page. Then it goes viral, raging uncontrollably. Can’t be stopped. Here in America the set-up is our nation’s pervasive “Super-Rich Delusion.”"

"The recall campaign against Sen. Randy Hopper (R-Fond du Lac) appears to have enough signatures to force a recall election, though volunteers don't plan to stop collecting them before next week.
Scott Dillman, a former Department of Corrections employee who is one of the campaign's coordinators, wouldn't say directly Tuesday that volunteers had collected the 15,269 signatures required to force the election. But he said that volunteers were planning a last push for signatures on election day next Tuesday, and that he's hoping that the total collected will be "closer to 30,000 than 15,000.""

The #student-led movement opposing budget cuts is growing in America. http://bit.ly/eUDk2t #USuncut #austerity
"Students at Arizona universities rallied to oppose $235 million in cuts to their universities’ budgets, and a labor-student coalition in Florida led about 300 protesters through the streets to protest Gov. Scott’s proposal to cut 5 to 10 percent (about $3 billion) from public education.
People often ask me why students in the US haven’t organized a massive resistance like the one we’re witnessing in the UK. My answer to that is there is resistance in this country. It isn’t centralized and overwhelming…yet, but it is most definitely rising to the surface and beginning to spill over."

"The fight pitting Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker against labor unions and their supporters continues to rumble on, with a state bureau publishing the controversial "budget repair bill" in apparent defiance of a county judge's temporary restraining order against doing so. If you're the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, you want to overturn Walker's bill as soon as possible—but you also want the drawn-out fight surrounding the controversial legislation to stretch as long as possible."
