Fitzgerald talks on guns in the capitol - YouTube
Uploaded by ladyforward1 on Oct 27, 2011
Fitzgerald: "I would rather have law abiding citizens that go through a course be able to protect themselves then just have somebody up in the gallery that would be able to do currently what they are... we've heard from the other side of the aisle that we want this building to be open and all the public to be there, so, if that's the case, then we also want people, the citizens, to be able to come in and protect themselves."
Daily Kos: VIDEO Wisconsin Assembly Rep: "...we are going to stay in caucus until the doors are opened."
The video Arthur released today is a bit longer than the others, but it's perhaps the best yet. It's not a video that stuns you, but as you watch person after person being handcuffed, you begin to realize how frightening this is in terms of preserving freedom and democracy. The arrests are shown while audio of Democratic Assembly Representatives making reasoned, passionate arguments for allowing peaceful observers to be left alone is played. The Democrats all wore buttons with the same words from the Wisconsin constitution that gallery observers had previously printed on their "illegal" signs.

"This could end up keeping people from finding work in Milwaukee,"
"This could end up keeping people from finding work in Milwaukee," she said. And, she said the writing was on the wall for the bill's passage in Madison. "They already have lots of votes for this."
It would be fascinating to crawl inside the skull of a politician like Kleefisch who decides to introduce punitive legislation like this under the disingenuous guise of a "job growth bill."
Apparently, Kleefisch wants us to believe most businesses have been clamoring for a new law to protect them from being sued by felons. Once it passes, I suppose all these firms will flock to Wisconsin to create thousands of jobs.
Wisconsin's Senate Bill 207 | But what is this really about?

Thank You Arthur for all that you are doing and sharing... I feel like we are in round two and maybe a little more skilled with more people paying attention... we need to remind people to SHARE MORE AGAIN... to push this information even further into our communities. I will keep on reminding folks to share this information with others and encourage them to ask others to do the same... the time has come, this is the call to SHARE and Mobilize AGAIN.

At least 93 Milwaukee police officers have been disciplined for violating law - JSOnline
First of three parts
At least 93 Milwaukee police officers - ranking from street cop to captain - have been disciplined for violating the laws and ordinances they were sworn to uphold, a Journal Sentinel investigation found.
Their offenses range from sexual assault and domestic violence to drunken driving and shoplifting, according to internal affairs records. All still work for the Police Department, where they have the authority to make arrests, testify in court and patrol neighborhoods.
Officers who run afoul of the law often aren't fired or prosecuted, the newspaper found. Consider:
At least six officers disciplined by the department for illegal behavior suffered no legal consequences whatsoever. One was Reginald Hampton, accused of sexually assaulting two women he met on duty. Another was Mark Kapusta, suspended after a woman said he pointed a gun at her head during a drunken road-rage incident. Neither officer was charged or ticketed. Read Full Article Here- JSOnline

More Info | Since 2007, our private corporate thugs and elected officials have tried to pass a bill that would disenfranchise felons from employment. In 2011, they are at it again with AB 286 and SB 207 which would make it legal to refuse employment and terminate from employment because of a felony conviction. As stated in today's law, if the "criminal" act was in relations to the description of the job, then that would make it legal for de...nial. In regards to the newly exile paper work legislation, it wouldn't matter if the person was convicted for a minor non violent act, such as possession of drugs, or failure to pay child support. There will be no separation from a 1st time felon to a ex-con. These bills tell a person no matter what happened in their past, you may never have a chance to work and feed yourself in Wisconsin again. This only leads to a revolving door of revocation and increasingly high prison rates, where big business will make a profit off the backs of those who can not fend for themselves. Scott Walker promised he would create jobs for Amerikkka, but he never said he would wipe out a segment of the disproportionate unemployed percentage. By passing this law, it would make all felons ineligible for employment in the state of Wisconsin, which would then allow Scott Walker to say the unemployment percent dropped, when in reality it was just eliminated. These bills are not only wrong; these bills are against Human Rights. KILL AB286 & SB207 NO MORE OPPRESSION L.U.V. BRIGADE Let Us Vote |

The big idea | Robin Hood Tax
In a nutshell, the big idea behind the Robin Hood Tax is to generate billions of pounds – hopefully even hundreds of billions of pounds. That money will fight poverty in the UK and overseas. It will tackle climate change. And it will come from fairer taxation of the financial sector.
A tiny tax on the financial sector can generate £20 billion annually in the UK alone. That's enough to protect schools and hospitals. Enough to stop massive cuts across the public sector. Enough to build new lives around the world – and to deal with the new climate challenges our world is facing.
As a result of the financial crisis, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has calculated UK government debt will be 40% higher. That 40% equates to £737 billion pounds, or £28,000 pounds for every taxpayer in the country. Having to pay back that debt means cuts in vital services on which millions of people around the country rely. Read More Here Robin Hood Tax

"As we watch the peaceful protest in New York City, "Occupy Wall Street", explode with massive amounts of people, and groups forming similar "Occupy" protests around the world, we must realize that it is time for us to stand up with them.
It is time to come together and educate each other. We will stand in solidarity with these other movements and we will create a platform for people to speak and provide an audience that will listen.
Let them gawk, let them ask questions, let them wake up.
We realize that our social, economic, and political structures are broken. This is more than just a protest "against" something. It is about coming together as people, acknowledging things are broken, and working together to fix them." Occupy Vancouver Art Gallery |Facebook page

MILWAUKEE - Occupy organizers continue to rally worldwide this weekend.
Here in Milwaukee, Occupy the Hood held a news conference Saturday afternoon to draw attention to a couple of state proposals they say are unfairly targeting minorities in the workplace.
Those include Senate Bill 207 and House Bill 286, which deal with how to handle the employment of convicted felons.
Today's TMJ4's Nick Montes reports.

"Thomas L. Friedman, foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times and a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, will speak at Yale on Monday, Oct. 24, as a guest of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.
The event is co-sponsored by the Whitney Humanities Center and will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the center’s auditorium at 53 Wall St. It is free and open to the public.
Friedman will discuss his new book, “That Used to Be Us: How America Fell Behind in The World It Invented and How We Can Come Back,” which he co-wrote with Michael Mandelbaum, considered one of the leading foreign policy thinkers in the United States today.
He will outline his belief that America faces four major challenges, on which its future depends, and its failure to meet them. He will analyze those challenges — globalization, the revolution in information technology, the nation’s chronic deficits, and its pattern of energy consumption — and spell out what he thinks we need to do now to rediscover America and rise to this moment." "Occupy Milwaukee" protester released after misunderstanding at bank - TODAY'S TMJ4
"He never said anything to the likes of what they say that he said. And I was there I heard it, I saw it all," said one protester to TODAY'S TMJ4. Another said that Thompson said, "Class is in session."
Hannah Engber says the event was a non-violent protest of TARP bailout recipient M&I Bank.
She says police should have known no one from "Occupy Milwaukee" was planning on holding up the bank.
"They know our intentions. They know who we are. They know we're not robbing a bank. So the fact that they would even say that is a reason for Austin being arrested is kind of ridiculous," Engber told TODAY'S TMJ4.
Austin was released from the Milwaukee County Jail Friday morning and he has not yet been charged with a crime. See Full text and video News Report Here - TODAY'S TMJ4
IMMEDIATE ATTENTION! SB 207 gives employers the right to legally discriminate against over 62,000 Wisconsin residents.
Occupy The Hood Opposes Senate Bill 207
For Immediate Release:
October 21, 2011
WISCONSIN- We are in a state of emergency. The employment crisis will take yet another hit if Senate Bill 207(SB 207) is passed. This bill has already sped through the Assembly (AB 286), reached the Senate table, and will be passed if not challenged immediately. SB 207 gives employers the right to legally discriminate against over 62,000 Wisconsin residents.
Occupy the Hood, a coalition of organizations and individuals, is demanding that politicians put reelection hopes aside and represent the best interests of the people. This current piece of legislation is reflective of the solidarity between politicians, corporations, and other employers that are aligned in the exploitation of the working class. The overall unemployment rate in Wisconsin is already a staggering 7.9% and in Milwaukee County alone 9.2% of people are without work. In these trying economic times, Governor Scott Walker promised 250,000 jobs, but instead we are being blindsided by SB 207. Not only will this further inhibit job creation, it also makes Wisconsin less competitive in the global marketplace.
In an effort to counter this covert attack, the voice of the people needs to be heard! The following events will be taking place…
- Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. a press conference will be held at the offices of Urban Underground 4850 W. Fond Du Lac Ave- we are encouraging the public and the media to attend this press conference for more information about SB 207 and its potential impact on families.
- Monday, October 24, 2011 a Senate public hearing will be held at the State Capital- 411 S. State St, Madison, Wisconsin. We encourage the public to attend this hearing to voice their concerns about SB 207. Read Full Note Here

Occupy Milwaukee:
"Drop the Charges and Release Austin Thompson!”Participants followed a script and left the building when asked. Police targeted Austin Thompson, an African-American organizer who led the Teach In, and arrested him later outside of the bank.
It’s been reported that Mr. Thompson stated to bank tellers that this is a “hostile takeover.” At no point during this demonstration did Mr. Thompson say these words or use any language that could be construed as threatening, hostile, or that would’ve endangered anyone in the bank.
“This is an attempt to criminalize Occupy Milwaukee and all those fighting against the greed and corruption of the banks, corporations, and elected officials” commented Occupy Milwaukee organizer and protest participant Khalil Coleman.
We call on all supporters and concerned individuals to share this and contact the District Attorneys office at 414-278-4646 and demand all charges be dropped against Austin Thompson.

However, people who identified themselves as participants in the gathering organized by Occupy Milwaukee said no one had threatened the bank or anyone else. The group is an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement, which focuses on the role large banks and multinational corporations play in government and the economy.
A video posted on the group's Facebook page late Thursday afternoon carried about nine minutes of footage from Thursday's protest. The video does not give a complete record of the gathering; it's not clear what might have happened before or after filming, or whether the video was edited.
At different points in the video, police can be seen in the background observing the event. Then, a man at the center of the protesters yells: "Folks, this is not a recession, this is a robbery. We are being robbed, and they're stealing and taking away from us every day."
At that point, officers can be seen on the video interceding and taking the man away. They refused to give any reasons for the arrest to other protesters.
Here is a link to the full video outside the bank.. we have yet to locate any video from inside but the bank. Pay careful attention to what the "teacher" says just before his arrest....
This video documents the efforts of a disciplined and dedicated group of concerned local Milwaukee citizens now UNITED by Occupy Milwaukee (a group affiliated with Occupy Wall St.). One of several goals of this group is to bring the immoral actions of the banks to the attention of the public.

My Advice to the Occupy Wall Street Protesters | Politics News | Rolling Stone
"No matter what, I'll be supporting Occupy Wall Street. And I think the movement's basic strategy – to build numbers and stay in the fight, rather than tying itself to any particular set of principles – makes a lot of sense early on. But the time is rapidly approaching when the movement is going to have to offer concrete solutions to the problems posed by Wall Street. To do that, it will need a short but powerful list of demands. There are thousands one could make, but I'd suggest focusing on five:..." Matt Taibbi | Rolling Stone
How Occupy Wall Street Really Got Started | Mother Jones
"In America, we march, we chant, we protest, we picket, we sit in. But the notion of a people's general assembly is a bit foreign. Put simply, it's a leaderless group of people who get together to discuss pressing issues and make decisions by pure consensus. The term "horizontal" gets tossed around to describe general assemblies, which simply means there's no hierarchy: Everyone stands on equal footing. Occupy Wall Street's daily assemblies shape how the occupation is run, tackling issues such as cleaning the park, public safety, and keeping the kitchen running. Smaller working groups handle media relations, outreach, sanitation, and more. In Spain, general assemblies are hugely popular, forming not just in the cities but in individual neighborhoods, bringing a few hundred people together each week. In some cases, Spanish assemblies have been formed to stop home evictions or immigrant raids." Andy Kroll
Occupy Chicago After Arrests: We Will Re-Occupy | Common Dreams
"So what’s next for Occupy Chicago? How will the City and the movement respond to the arrests? “It is a morally reprehensible and politically unsustainable system we find ourselves in,” said Bohrer. “The arrests do not negatively impact the ideas or spirit of the movement. It [the arrests] just makes more visible the state apparatus [that protects the financial sector]. Our civil disobedience protest is against the way the political and economic system co-constitute each other. We will re-occupy.”"

"Occupy New Haven has not encountered any resistance. Indeed, she added that one policeman came and introduced himself to protesters, asking them not to call him “officer” and saying he supported the protests." - occupier Jess Bachinski
"Oestreich, who said she will drop out of St. John’s University to work full time with the Occupy movement, has traveled the East Coast to help the different manifestations of the Occupy protests share ideas and information, and does not believe the movement’s lack of a singular message hurts the protests.
“We don’t want well-defined demands because that would [exclude] people,” Oestreich said, adding that the goal of the Occupy protests is to spark discussion first, and effect change later. She said that one of the few demands the group agreed on was taking corporations out of politics.
Saturday was “Global Occupation Day,” she said, with cities across the world holding similar protests. As for the future of New Haven’s protests, Oestreich said she is extremely optimistic given the large number that came out for Saturday’s march.
By Sunday night, there were around 30 tents on the New Haven Green. Protesters said the occupation has no plan to end." Full Article Here| Yale Daily News

Friends ask why I support the Occupy Movement, usually noting that I have a reasonably comfortable life and insisting that the protestors either don't want to take responsibility for their own lives, regret the fact that they missed the '60s, or are hygiene-challenged communists / socialists / anarchists. The truth is we are all average citizens who represent the variety of America.
WE ARE THE 99%.... If you make less than $5 million per year, SO ARE YOU.
Because I think that all Americans have not just the right but the obligation to speak up and demand changes when our society ceases to be free and fair to everyone, I am part of the Occupy Movement. Critics complain that we don't have a list of demands. Here are mine:

"Who's Word? Our Word."
First of all thank you Quiet Minortiy …. For this creative and unique opportunity to express myself in this venue… I love the virtural venue space of the comments column.
Let me first address “…word is we don’t even know what we are protesting for.”
Even as I retype that statement… I can feel myself open to the importance of not knowing. I feel the discomfort of a system demanding answers and clear solutions to sustain itself. I continue to witness and participate in that protest|demand paradigm in the Wisconsin Uprising. I am interested in participating in how Occupy Wall st is different. I recognize OWS' struggle to OPEN up and explore the issues and to consider the very essence of profoundly serious problems. I recognize this process as a courageous dismantling of a destructive and dysfunctional system. There is no way for ME to KNOW…. exactly what needs to happen and in exactly what order. I will have to enter into the process of exploration and discovery. I will have to commit to learning more and doing my research.
.
So I can understand that the claim that I do not know what I am protesting for could be seen as accurate in that it is based on an old paradigm which values KNOWING. Struggling to understand that, "not knowing" has a value will take significant time. This movement is aligning itself with a different way of knowing and understanding. The paths will need to be built and the development of new processes to achieve the deep transformations necessary to change our global trajectory. I trust and respect the work that all of you are doing. I am paying attention and contributing in a personally meaningful way. I am committed to the idea that everyone needs to be informed and if accurate information is available.. we the people will be able to make decisions that will lead us in new positive and sustainable directions…but we MUST KNOW and SHARE THE TRUTH. I look forward to working with all of you in dismantling our current world and rebuilding a better ONE for ALL.
P.S. I will have to consider the the second concern about boredom later...
