Judge wants La Follette to have own attorney; appeals court denies Van Hollen request

"Secretary of State Doug La Follette should have his own attorney in the controversial case over Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining law, a judge said Tuesday morning.

During questioning of Michael Barman of the Legilstive Reference Bureau, La Follette wanted to ask questions that his attorneys from the state Department of Justice, Steve Kilpatrick and Maria Lazar, refused to ask on his behalf.

Bob Jambois, the attorney representing Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, objected and said it appeared that the interests of the Democratic secretary of state and Republican attorney general J.B. Van Hollen had diverged."
