Mandatory paper ballots ( no VVPAT's ) - Open source software ( no " corporate owned " software ) - This activist effort has been embraced by the California State Democratic Party Platform.. but has not been implemented.. mainly due to Microsoft lobbyist control over the political process..

Open Voting Consortium (OVC) provided a voting system for the LinuxWorld conference at Moscone Center in San Francisco, Aug 5-7. The system is called an Electronic Ballot Printer, which prints voters' choices in the voting booth.YouTube - ‪OVC at LinuxWorld 2008‬‏

Dan Schulte: that sounds like a step or two in the right direction. Paper ballots should be required, enabling a hand recount w no bull ----.

Brent Turner: ‎@ Dan- Yes- these two steps change the game.. Once you can see the code- and have mandatory paper ballots- the risk / reward ratio for manipulation changes dramatically- and an appropriate deterrent level is created.. You still have to have surrounding security in place- but at least you have proper foundation..
