As the Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade wound its way through the streets of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, protesters waiting around every turn in to voice their displeasure in the state's new financial manager law.

Groups of demonstrators from around Michigan and even from out of state took advantage of the public appearance by Governor Snyder to raise their voices against the Michigan's new emergency financial manager law. The law gives EFM's like Benton Harbor's Joseph Harris the authority to dissolve local governmental bodies.

Some protesters, led by the AFL-CIA, came from as far away as Kentucky.

"People are waking up," said Betsy Coffia, who traveled from Traverse City, Mich. to protest the parade. "Michigan didn't have a Wisconsin, things just sneaked in behind us. We're starting to realize that unless we the people start getting engaged, and make our voices heard, we're going to lose what we thought we had."

Facing protests, Pscholka withdraws from Blossomtime parade | Michigan Messenger

Facing protests, Pscholka withdraws from Blossomtime parade | Michigan Messenger

"State Rep. Al Pscholka (R-Stevensville), House sponsor of Michigan’s Emergency Manager law, has announced that he will not participate in the annual St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Blossomtime parade this Saturday because people are planning to protest.

Pscholka’s bill, which was signed into law in March, has been used to strip the Benton Harbor City Commission of all decision making power, a move that has inspired protests, national television coverage, calls for legal action and an effort to recall him.

In a Facebook message Pscholka said that the parade, which will be lead by Gov. Rick Snyder, “is not, in any way, a tasteful forum for political dialogue.”

“When I got word that there was a possibility of protestors at the Blossomtime Parade, I was deeply disappointed and angered, to say the least. With every indication that the protests will still take place there, I have made the decision not to participate as part of the parade procession." Full Article| Michigan Messenger

As many of you know, I posted a comment on Whirlpool's page saying I would personally boycott Whirlpool until they came to the aid of Benton Harbor. This is their response. Do any of you know about this? Do you have any feedback? See comment for their response. http://www.bentonharborfacts.com/.

Jen Freer | On the subject of Jean Klock Park, it is true that the place was pretty much abandoned and rarely used for legitimate recreation until it was upgraded to the state is in now. There is also a shuttle bus for Jean Klock Park that runs into do...wntown BH. I don't know if it's a free shuttle bus or not; I've never used it. I am told that residents of the "City of Benton Harbor" get free admission into Jean Klock Park. Again, I don't know if that's true or not. I have not been to JKP since they started charging and not allowing dogs.See More

Dear _______,

If the _______ Party intends to save itself over the next few years, the people who run for office as _______ will need to start recognizing and acting on these fundamental truths:
1. Office-holders are elected to represent the People.
2. Corporations are not people.
3. Corporations do not have natural rights.
4. Corporations are subject to laws that people make for them.
5. Office-holders are not elected to represent the Corporations.
Thank you, I wish you the best of luck waking up to these truths.

Michigan Supreme Court
February 4, 2011 - Court Denies Plaintiff's Leave to Appeal

On Friday, February 4th the Michigan Supreme Court issued a shocking 6 to1 decision that there would be no further review of our leave to appeal and ordered our application be denied. The sole reason given in the Court Order was, “… because we are not persuaded that the questions presented should be reviewed by this Court.” The news wasn’t released until Saturday, February 5, 2011.

We are enormously displeased with the court’s decision and feel that aside from Justice Stephen Markman, the court got it tragically wrong. Obviously Justice Markman agrees with our arguments as in the Court Order he made direct statements in his dissenting opinion in reference to our arguments:

“… I believe that the City’s use of Jean Klock Park, by leasing portions of it for 105 years to a private commercial entity, the Harbor Shores Community Redevelopment, Inc., for its use as a golf course, constitutes a breach of faith … Although the City prevails today, it, and other communities throughout our state, may well come out losers tomorrow as later generations of philanthropists look at the legacy of J. N. and Carrie Klock and come to question the faithfulness of government in upholding their intentions after they too have passed. I respectfully dissent.” – Justice Stephen Markman – For more information | Save Jean Klock Park | website

"Bit by bit the city has allowed this priceless acreage to be co-opted or sold for little or nothing, a clear breach of the city’s covenant with the donors."

"Benton Harbor is located in southwestern lower Michigan, less than 60 miles across Lake Michigan from Chicago. The gift of Jean Klock Park in 1917 to the City extended the city’s reach to include Lake Michigan shoreline. The land was formally annexed to the City in 1949, and a contiguous parcel, acquired for the park by the city itself, was annexed in 1953. Bit by bit the city has allowed this priceless acreage to be co-opted or sold for little or nothing, a clear breach of the city’s covenant with the donors." Read and View More Here

Gov. Snyder is taking corporate welfare to unprecedented new levels.

"After the new tax incentives started, Whirlpool announced it would soon be moving its Evansville and Fort Smith, Indiana, plants to Mexico, laying off another 1,200 workers and leaving up to 1,500 more out of jobs...And, like General Electric, Whirlpool's effective tax rate for 2010 will be zero percent."

Attempt to Muzzle the Media Part of Drive Toward Fascism

A thousand mile journey starts with (and develops with) a thirty-inch step. This often quoted adage certainly applies to the development of the political features of fascism in the United States. We took another step with the firing of Vivian Schiller, CEO and President of National Public Radio, because an NPR fundraiser make remarks attacking the conservatives. Conservatives in Congress then launched a new campaign to stop federal funding of NPR. The media community was frighteningly quiet with each media organization thinking they may be next. As the man said, fail to learn from history and you will repeat it. We are way down that road.Full Article Here

Herald Palladium > Local News > Poll: BH residents pick EM over commission

Opposition is scrambling with spin doctors... Here a poll shows 50% of BH residents support the EM, but how many people actually have land lines there? Also, the polling language can be skewed to get the answer you want and ultimately the recall will truly show how the community feels. Considering 100% of their residents didn't support the EM when we were walking the streets we are confident of the recall efforts!

"Michigan’s Republicans are creating a legal model for American fascism for the benefit of Wall Street. The state’s new emergency financial management legislation “is the prototype for a host of laws designed to make government – the state – a compliant tool for a dictatorship of the most predatory sections of the ruling class.” Naturally – this being the United States – the first localities targeted for de-democratization are Black." see more | bhbanco.blogspot.com
