This is some of the groundwork behind what is now happening to Benton Harbor,- good books to read on this issue, and the topic of revanchist gentrification, are Sudhir Venkatesh's Gang Leader for a Day, and Mary Pattillo's Black on the Block. What happened in Chicago - via city-wide plan to reform public housing, that was actually intended to take away lakefront land and homes from the poor and the black so that the rich and the white could have access to that prime real estate, - is exactly what the GOP plans for Benton Harbor, and whatever lake front town is next, - they want the water, they want it all.

I decided to leave this post intact as I DID fall for the hoax and it provided me a very interesting sets of experiences (not sure I needed another roller coaster ride this morning).... Wisconsin Resists, a new coalition formed to stop Scott Walker's agenda, is calling for a rally at Dane County Courthouse at 8:30AM on Tuesday, March 29, Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi was right to issue a restraining order on the publication of the Budget Repair Bill. Scott Walker broke the law in ramming through this bill. As Judge Sumi has written:... "The failure to provide timely notice before a meeting... It's not a minor detail."

Now we need a strong show of public support to show opposition to Walker's contempt for democracy. Let's keep up the pressure to Kill the Bill!
