We are with you!
The new Dictiorial EFM laws is the point of no return. Stand now or be silent forever.
Things are happening quickly now. With the Benton Harbor/Detroit incident and the deteriorating Middle East, not to mention the earth quakes/nuke disaster and ensuing economic downturn, many more cities will have the EFM plan put into action. To me that i...s the point of no return. If we allow the state government to casually replace the elected officials from a city at a whim, based on subjective criteria we will have allowed any pretense to self governance to vanish. No more will you be able to decide which politicians run your city and represent your local neighborhoods; you won’t even have a choice. Your neighbors, being found “too stupid” to manage your own accounts will have all power taken from you. You think government is bad now??? Wait until they are completely unaccountable to YOU. We need to learn everything about the EFM and the laws associated with it. It’s of dire importance that we understand the totality of this and what it means. This summer, will we witness our ability to self govern and our democracy destroyed, without a fight or… will we see it explode onto the center stage? There is little time to act; first we must educate ourselves on the various laws like the EFM. Check out this well written article by Amy http://www.facebook.com/notes/amy-washburn/the-michigan-emergency-financial-manager-efm-law-and-real-property-what-were-not/168627293195504 If you wish to read the actual Michigan law, check here http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/2011-2012/publicact/pdf/2011-PA-0004.pdf Benton Harbor was the first city to have its elected officials replaced. Here is some footage of the citizen’s reaction to the city council meeting announcing the overthrow. http://www.youtube.com/user/FriendsofBHMI#p/u/3/ppG_BT-i_98 The gentleman at 3:55 is quite moving in his speech. We are witnessing democracy die people. There is no time to play ignorant. If you are unable to take action in your own life, at least support the work of others who are. Tomorrow is a physical day of action (One of many to come) Help support them by sharing the message and by paying attention tomorrow, searching the topic, sharing news stories and by not letting people ignore it! Trust me when I tell you that this is the most tangled web you have ever seen in your life. Last week Michigan's Republican Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation giving him what many have called “dictatorial” powers. The much despised EFM law gives Snyder the power to hand pick emergency..."

Daily Kos: UPDATED - And so it begins. Emergency Financial Mgr. fires entire government of Benton Harbor, MI.

"As you probably know, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder recently signed legislation passed by the Republican-dominated House and Senate that gives State-appointed Emergency Financial Managers (EFMs) historically broad and sweeping powers. These new powers allow the EFM to cancel or modify contracts (including with unions) and even to fire the municipality's government.

Today, for the first time, an EFM did just that. According to a press release from the Michigan AFL-CIO, Joseph L. Harris, EFM for Benton Harbor, Michigan issued "an order prohibiting all action by all city boards, commissions, authorities and other entities, except as authorized by the emergency manager."
