"Here is the short list of states with Democratic governors where labor unions are undergoing severe attacks: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Oregon, California, New York, Illinois, Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota, Maryland and New Hampshire. Other states with Democratic governors are attacking unions to a lesser degree."

"Without aggressively demanding solutions to the immediate problems facing working people, a social movement cannot be created to deal with the crisis facing labor unions and working people in general. Only a national social movement with Wisconsin-like energy has the potential to shift the country's direction, away from the rich and corporations and toward working people. Such a social movement will not be born from soft demands, half-fought battles or campaigning for Democrats."

"Most Michigan city officials dread almost nothing more than the appointment of an emergency manager to oversee their affairs, especially now that those overseers have virtually limitless authority. But Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is threatening to request one if unions don’t accept his demands.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said Thursday that he’ll request a state-appointed emergency financial manager if the city’s 48 employee unions don’t make health care concessions, or if the state does not agree to extend the city’s special allowance for income and utility taxes." Show your support for immigrant rights as workers rights this Sunday. Immigrant rights groups, along with supporters from the labor community, will be rallying on May 1 in both Milwaukee and Madison. Richard Trumka, the president of the National AFL-CIO, will be the featured speaker at the Milwaukee rally. Here's the schedule:
