Elections chief to outsource processing of absentee ballots
Guess What? It Is Cheaper to Use Federal Government Employees Than Contractor Employees | Truthout

"They'd never get away with this in private business, let's outsource & allow the free market to give us the best service for the cheapest prices," is the mantra I've been hearing people repeat for too long. It's just not true. Outsourcing cost MORE. Somebody has to cover the fat profit...

Analyzing the Brew-Ha-Ha at the Madison Capitol | The Progressive
Thank you, Rebecca Kemble, for this awesome article. "These acts are not done to curry favor with anyone, to build political campaigns, or to win popularity contests. They are fairly desperate expressions of outrage by people who are holding a cultural and social space until such time as others rise up in an organized, committed fashion against the destruction of the commons and our supposedly democratic institutions."

"Miles is one of a very loosely knit group of a few hundred activists in Madison who have kept up a consistent, daily oppositional presence at the Capitol and on the trail of Scott Walker and other Republican legislators. Through the Solidarity Sing Along and other activist organizing over the past seven months, these people have kept the spirit of resistance alive. As one person told me, “I’m here for the 100,000 other people who were with us on the streets in February and who would like to be here now but they can’t.”
We are bearing daily witness to the coup d'etat that has taken place in Wisconsin and that continues to be rolled out on a daily basis in dozens of ways in our communities. When citizens are not given a voice in their government and laws are made to silence and disempower us, and when the mainstream media does such a poor job of reporting on the radical corporatist agenda being implemented at such an alarming pace, acts such as pouring a beer over the head of one of the inner circle of conspirators and calling him out in public are tokens of resistance that draw attention to the fact that we’re still here and ready to fight."Read More Here

Lena C. Taylor

Lena Taylor is getting grief from the conservative media for saying people should vote with their dollars. We agree and we know there are lots of great businesses in Wisconsin with people friendly policies. You might want to head over to her fb page and show her some support.

In early 2011, the Senator took a principled and dramatic stand against Governor Scott Walker’s goal of ending collective bargaining as part of the “Wisconsin 14”—the fourteen Democratic Senators that left the state in order to prevent the passing of the “Budget Repair Bill” that would strip away the right of workers and end democracy in the public sector work place. Taylor and her colleagues were and are revered by many for their stand in support of worker’s rights in Wisconsin. The National Education Association awarded Taylor and the rest of the Wisconsin 14 individually their 2011 Friend of Education Award, the first time ever the award was granted to a collective group’s action. In addition to more than a decade of legal experience, as well as another eight years serving as a political representative for the people of Milwaukee, Senator Taylor is also a devoted mother to her son Isaiah and mentor to many.

Shale gas is “worse than coal” :: News From Underground

Shale gas ‘worse than coal’ for climate
By Richard Black Environment correspondent, BBC News
The new kid on the energy block, shale gas, may be worse in climate change terms than coal, a study concludes.
Drawn from rock through a controversial “fracking” process, some hail the gas as a “stepping stone” to a low-carbon future and a route to energy security.
But US researchers found that shale gas wells leak substantial amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, strongly encourage Congress and the President to support H. Res 365, introduced by Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-MI), seeking student loan forgiveness as a means of economic stimulus.
For over 30 years, the rich have gotten richer, the poor have gotten poorer, and the middle class is slowly but surely being squeezed out of existence. Instead of more of the same corporate welfare/"trickle-down" economics that have been an abysmal failure for the middle class, why not try a trickle-up approach to rebuilding our economy by targeting relief at those most likely to actually help grow the economy?

Wyoming’s SMOG is now worse than LA’s! (Thanks to fracking…) :: News From Underground
"The other day poor air quality caused a daycare center to cancel outside playtime, and local officials to issue warnings to kids, elderly and people with respiratory problems, according to a USA Today story. Obviously nothing shocking if you live in L.A. or Houston or other big, smoggy cities — but these warnings sprung from rural Wyoming."
